This new Backburner location in Kuwait City’s Souk Al Tojar extends the identity of the original coffee shop into a three-level setting, adapting its character to a different urban context.

The design carries forward Backburner’s material palette of warm blue and brown penny tiles and plywood carpentry, while introducing new elements such as a white powder-coated perforated steel stair and a blue library.

Opening on one side to an interior courtyard and on the other to the street and garden, the café is shaped by a fluid relationship between its interior spaces and the surrounding urban setting.
